Twenty Democrats took the stage in Detroit over two nights, and public polls of Democratic voters showed Sen. Elizabeth Warren as the winner. Of course, many observers also didn’t expect that so many candidates would remain in the race. Should they? Not according to our latest look at the candidates’ storytelling abilities, as scored by a group of Republican, Democrat and Independent voters who watched the debates’ opening statements. Voters in different age groups were clear about who delivered delight, wisdom and wonder and who fell short—showing that it’s time for the frontrunners and longshots alike to get their stories straight with all voters: young, middle-age and older.
